Western Surety staff members work hard to develop their knowledge and expertise through the rigorous Associateship in Canadian Surety Bonding (ACSB) program.

Four have already achieved the ACSB designation:

  • Kevin Bach and Paul Thompson earned the designation in 2004;
  • Wes Benson completed the program in 2006; and
  • Lex Kress achieved her designation in 2010.

Six more are currently enrolled:

  • Greg Salmon, Cory Manchur and Mackenzie Osatiuk will complete the program this year;
  • Jerrod Briere, Bear Trapp and George Vlastakis will be finished in 2013.

It’s a lengthy and demanding academic course developed by the Surety Association of Canada and the School of Continuing Studies at the University of Toronto. The program is aimed specifically at professionals pursuing careers in the surety industry, and provides in-depth practical and theoretical understanding of surety.

Western Surety’s students commit a lot of personal time and hard work. Western Surety provides significant financial support and other encouragement because of how the ACSB designation helps create high value for our clients

Three Years later – Those Centennial Scholarship Winners

During Western Surety’s 100th Anniversary in 2009, we awarded university scholarships to seven children of brokers across Canada. Here’s an update on one of them.

Emma Grant – York University. The daughter of Kim Grant of Petrela Winter and Associates, Emma is attending York’s Glendon Campus and in her fourth year majoring in French.

Outside of studies, gymnastics dominates Emma's life. She’s a provincial gymnastics coach, was on Canada’s 2011 National Cheer Team and in that same year was Twist Magazine’s top Canadian female tumbler.

Following a major injury, she then worked her way back into top condition and this year has been chosen to compete on Canada’s 2012 National Cheer Team for the International Cheer Competition at Disney World.

When Email Beats Fax and Mail

Email is becoming a more efficient way to send us those documents that don’t require original copies.

If you’re faxing or mailing a copy of a bond, bond request and CSR, remember that you can also send those by email to wscinfo@westernsurety.ca.

(Originals are still necessary on applications, indemnity agreements and any other document where an original signature or seal is required.)

Thank you!
